Piping up a Feast
26 September 2009

LANGASS LODGETonight saw me Piping to welcome the guests to The Great Feast at Langass Lodge.

The Great Feast celebrated the very best of the produce of the Uists and Barra, serving food sourced from producers throughout the islands, both from the land and the sea. The meal consisted of seventeen small courses, with the story of each course told before it was served, including a brief outline of the environment from whence it came. They included scallops, lobster, smoked sea trout, snipe, venison, lamb, and peat smoked wild salmon – a meal to remember.

The event was a great celebration of the extraordinary food that comes from the islands, and provided a chance for local producers to showcase their wares prepared by the renMONTY HALLS AND RUEBENowned team at Langass Lodge. Led by award winning chef, John Buchanan, the feast was a meal of exceptional quality.

The night was also filmed as part of the second series of “Monty Halls’ Great Escape” and an auction took place involving a selection of these works, with all money raised going towards the funding of the nature ranger position on the Southern Isles. Altogether over £2,000 was raised.
